WHAT IS "ARGYBARPLE"?
ArgyBarple is many things to many people, and even more things to me. A noun? A verb? A match for the Jabberwock in thumbwrestling? Surely an onomatopoeia, and a snarling one at that. It remains best undefined. Still, since you (of little imagination?) sometimes ask...
"ArgyBarple" is from a couple of short-short stories I wrote ages ago (but never got published anywhere, not even on the 'Net, heh), and by my definitions it's either:
A. The nickname of a VERY eccentric professor whose real name is Argyle Burpehill.
B. A mythical beast from an island called Poghmo (see the 2004 post reprinted below).
C. A username for e-mail addresses, internet forums, etc that is NEVER taken by anyone else.
-or-
D. The name of my 'blog but not my website.
It might, or might just as well not, derive from the old Scottish terms "argy bargy" or "argle bargle," meaning to discuss heatedly, to argue, or passionately to banter. Which is what I did on the 'Net for about five years whilst goofing off at my previous job.
Poghmo Island

This photo was long thought to be of an ancient wooden monument in the forests of Poghmo Island, lacquered red and engraved with a weathered face sporting horns, perhaps evidence of the culture of one of the groups of inhabitants or creatures native to the isle. Eventually it was revealed as a hoax, though, simply the handle of an old spackling knife made by the Red Devil paint company:

However, sightings of the strange inhabitants of Poghmo Island continue to be reported, including were-people and the legendary Argybarple Beast. A composite sketch of the various descriptions of the Argybarple Beast follows:

Can photos be far behind? And there he is: The ArgyBarple Beast of Myth and Legynd.
