Global Warming... OH SHIT! IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING!

7/28 Addendum: Woke up to 1' of water in the basement. Floating cat litter boxes. First time this property has flooded in at least 25 years, if ever.

7/13:

My friend Mary Alice watched New Orleans flood and she thought, "They're the first... we might be next."

Then, here in freakin' OHIO, USA, Mary Alice's basement flooded. She was away and Kelly, her giant dachshund, and Bosco, her fostered Jack Russel terrier, had a helluva time. Bosco was up to his neck in his crate when Mary Alice rescued him, alternately clinging to the top of the cage and treading water and, naturally... dog-paddling. She let him free. ASAP.

But then Bosco stood at the top of the basement steps and stared at the water. "WTF?" he evidently thought. "My toys are down there!"

So naturally he jumped back in, dove down to the bottom and began looking for his plastic balls and nylon bones and such.

I LOVE terriers.

Someday I want to adopt Bosco.

I saw An Inconvenient Truth the other day, the Al Gore movie. Regardless of what your political stance is, you should see it. Gore has been pushing the gov't to acknowledge global warming since at least the '70s, which has not exactly made him politically popular or advanced his career.

Right now a construction crew is patching the road back over the new storm drainage pipes, leading to a holding pond, they have installed in front of the house where I live. There's a creek in my backyard that has always provided adequate storm relief, and it has never flooded to more than 6' of its 8' - 10' height.

But now somebody somewhere KNOWS it's a gonna flood...

So do yourself a favor. Go see An Inconvenient Truth. It won't hurt you, and it might prepare you for the future...

Me, I have a "GAS PIPELINE" flag I "borrowed" when the Komatsu machines first started tearing up my front lawn. Now that the bulldozers have left for the night, I'm about to go plant that flag smack-dab in the middle of the street and watch the ruckus that ensues tomorrow.

Like the Chinese curse, we "live in interesting times," but it can't stop us from having a little fun...

[Me: "Do you believe in global warming?" ... Friend: "*gurgle, glubglub*"]

"Aaarh, matey! I've always wanted to sail the open seas...":

Personally, I work on my cutlass-play and rigging-skills daily...
;-)

7/22, Heavy storms and flood warnings for Lake County (in which I live.)
