I dreamt I was a crazed bat flying (no, floating) deliriously through a psychedelic autumn forest of my mind, huge sponge-eyes absorbing a sea of liquid beauty, soaking it all deep inside...

Graffitti flowers on a wooden wall?

(Click the pic to see the full-size image.)

It seems a bit that way because the dog was trotting along the wooden walkway, the mucky wet pads of his feet splashing muddy prints that formed outlines like petals, his tracks often overlapping because of his gait:

What was the hurry? Maybe this explains it:

Did you notice the raccoon prints?:

I'm no expert, but I don't think he got close to the 'coon. I think he didn't even see it, just followed its scent in a huff of excitement. Or did the threatened raccoon back up off the planks, one paw sliding along, leaving long claw marks?

Possibly, though I don't quite think so...
A warm day after a heavy rain dries some old wood, but the mud and leaves surrounding it stay thickly wet... (mix this with some sphagnum moss and you can call it "muskeg," a beautiful word to my ears, in Canada; or add some peat, perhaps in Ireland, and you've got yourself a "bog.") Not only do the tracks tell you about the animals and the action, they paint a picture of the weather surrounding it as well.
The mystery, the story that unfolds in hints and clues, is all part of the charm of tracking... and hunting with your eyes, shooting with a camera.
Nature's tale waits patiently and tests your senses, hoping to be discovered, appreciated and revered.

Yeah, yeah... again, photos are by me (and need some work.) And have a good day!

Driftwood and sand. First in a series of images? I can't get enough of this 7" x 6" piece of flotsam.

Petals fly, flutter, alight on water and float downstream...

Left: A cross-section of a dead willow branch, shed by the live tree and weathered by a long winter.
Right: The fossilized shell of an ammonite, probably 450-million years old.
The spiralling patterns of life...

I, uh, just can't bring myself to throw it away...

Stones and a bit of beach glass from the Lake Erie shore:

Yeah, you know... images by me.
